Easthampton Paint Out 2014

Made it up to Easthampton, MA Paint Out again this year for their 7th Annual paint out. This was my 3rd year in a row attending the event. The weather during the week didn’t cooperate too well and I ended up setting up to paint on Friday the day before the event closed.

At my show in April at Nash Gallery in Easthampton (which was great! note to self: add a post about it) I spied these new (2) guitar sculptures on the sidewalk by Matthew Evald Johnson.

I had gone up on Saturday 9/6 the day the Paint Out began, scouted the location and made a good sketch of the Guitars. I completed another painting, a view of Mt. Tom  that was ok but not really show worthy.

As I painted Kevin Gutting a photographer from the Daily Hampshire Gazette took a bunch of shots of me working and an image was published in the weekend edition on 9/13.

The final painting is below. I  landed Best in Show for Oils/Acrylic which made me quite happy. I picked up an award for Spirit of the Cultural district as well. Easthampton Savings Bank acquires the Best in Show entries and awards a cash prize to the winners of the three categories Oils/Acrylic, Watercolor and Pastel.

All in all I had a great time. I was also informed that the painting that I did for last years Paint Out (Sundae Stroll September) was recently purchased by a local business from Nash Gallery.

BTW I need to catch up on posting, I have a bunch from the summer I need to add.

  1. I have recently purchased 2 canvases in Wilmington, NC and all I know is the artist John Murphy from Connecticut. Could I send photo by email or text of the work to see if this is your work? I would appreciate your time.
